Diamonds And Alternative Investment Blog

If you have happily owned a diamond ring as a diamond investment, there is no doubt that you’ve experienced this: you gaze at your ring finger and realize it’s gone.

It was on your finger a moment back, maybe less, just prior to you took it off to do the dishes. You’re sure you put beside the sink, just like you always do.  But now it’s missing.  You panic.  You look at the drain suspiciously. Take a deep breath, you tell yourself, as you eye those big, gaping holes in the drain.  You start to question, for the first time in your life, about the inner workings of a drain: is it like a big black hole, where things go in but don’t ever come out?  Or perhaps – optimistically – there’s a small ledge in there, something, anything that your ring could’ve gotten stuck on?

Certainly your husband is aware of the plumbing nitty-gritty.  But you don’t really want to let him know that the mark of your everlasting love, the ring, the diamond investment, on which he spent his life savings, may be taking a one-way trip down your city’s sewage pipes.

An instance to quote this could be mentioned. The actress Jennifer Garner didn’t allow her movie-star husband, Ben Affleck, when she lost her ring.  She was fiddling with it absentmindedly when it rolled into the drain of the ice maker.  Garner straight away called the plumber, who dexterously dismantled the ice maker and rescued her precious piece of jewelry.

For most of us, a diamond ring is our most prized possession: a blend of sentimental value and actual value. You want to do everything you can to protect it.

Unluckily, a diamond ring doesn’t come with an assurance like a washing machine or a stereo system.  There’s no serviceman you can call to come to your house to fix the condition. And we don’t all have Jennifer Garner’s brilliant plumber on speed dial to protect our diamond investment.

Guarantee Your Diamond Investment Doesn’t Go Down the Drain

So, to guard your expensive jewelry, here are some tips:

1. Verify your renters/homeowners insurance policy.
Most policies cover jewelry up to a set limit, and you can frequently choose to pay more for diamond ring insurance.  Get your diamond evaluated, and know the precise reimbursement amount before you commit.

2. Monitor patterns of removal.
The bathroom and kitchen sink are ordinary places where people remove their diamond rings.  Think about purchasing a special dish, or stand, where you can put your ring.

3. Make certain you have drain strainers.
Probability is that you already have these on your kitchen sink to keep out all those food particles, but double-check the shower and bathtub drains.  It never hurts to be on the safe side.  Drain strainers are priced just a few bucks at your local hardware store.

4. Keep your receipt and record identifying information for your diamond investment?
In the event that you do drop your diamond ring, you’ll want to report it to the police with as much detailed information as feasible.  And, if your ring is found, this will make the recovery process much easier.

5. Don’t Panic!
Freaking out is in no way going to help you find anything.  Probability is that your ring is somewhere noticeable.  Having somebody else search for you is a grand idea.

Finally, remember that your ring is your safest diamond investment – especially in these times of financial turmoil, so keep it safe.
